Substructure is the deck
Correct footings, bearer spans and ventilation decide whether a deck lasts five years or thirty. That is where the budget goes first.
Set out for the eye
Board runs, picture frames and stair nosings are set out so the deck reads as one piece from the doors you use most.
Detailed for slope
Most Ranges blocks fall away. We handle stepped platforms, cantilevers, retaining interfaces and safe stair geometry.

Good to know
- Do I need a permit for a deck?
- It depends on height above ground, size and overlays across Yarra Ranges. We flag likely requirements at the first visit - see our journal article on deck permits.
- Hardwood or composite?
- Hardwood for warmth and repairability; composite for very low maintenance. We will talk you through both against your site.
- How long will a deck last?
- A well-ventilated hardwood deck, oiled regularly, comfortably lasts decades. Poor substructure ventilation is the usual killer.
- Can you rebuild just the boards?
- Yes, if the substructure is sound. We assess and tell you honestly.
