Brief
Turn an exposed courtyard into a sheltered outdoor room that could be used through summer heat and winter drizzle alike.
Site
A level courtyard hard against the boundary, overlooked on one side and with no shade through the middle of the day.
Approach
Hardwood posts on concealed fixings carry a slatted roof set out to throw shade at the hottest part of the day. The exposed boundary is closed with spaced battens on a drained frame, so the space feels private without feeling boxed in.
Detail
Slat spacing is set out from the centreline so the runs finish even at both ends. Paving falls away from the house and every fixing is stainless.
